You invest a lot of personal time and mental energy into making an award-winning entry video showcasing your innovative solution. That’s why Young Scientist Challenge judges, experts in science and communication including current and former teachers, scientists, and district administrators, are selected carefully from a variety of disciplines and backgrounds.

In Round 1, judges score and rank entry videos based on the following criteria:

(i) Creativity (ingenuity and innovative thinking) (30%);
(ii) Scientific knowledge (30%);
(iii) Persuasiveness and effective communication (20%); and
(iv) Overall presentation (20%).

The 10 highest scoring entrants will be deemed finalists and will have the opportunity to participate in the summer mentorship program and final event activities.

The finalist who scores the highest according to the final event judging criteria above will be deemed the Grand Prize winner. The next three next-highest scoring finalists will each be deemed a Runner-Up Winner. Once the Runner-Up Winners have been determined, the remaining six finalists will each be deemed Honorable Mention.
