Shayan exhibits his passion for science through participating in science fairs, the science club and the math club. He is also a member of the Boy Scouts. Shayan plays the piano and is on the wrestling team.
What is your favorite subject in school?: 
My favorite school subject is science and geography. I also love to read.
What kind of extra-curricular activities or hobbies do you enjoy participating in?: 
I am an active Boy Scout and love skiing and wresting. I am also an active coin and antique collector, with great interest in the history of coins and antiques. I have been playing the piano since I was 5 years old and just won 2nd place in the Midatlantic 2011 Piano Competition. I speak 3 languages fluently (English, German and Farsi).
What career do you want to pursue and why?: 
I would like to be a veterinarian, because it involves many different animal biologies and research.
Why did you enter in the Discovery Education 3M Young Scientist Challenge?: 
I recently won first place in my school science fair and also in the PJAS competition. My teacher thought I would be interested in the Young Scientist Challenge and introduced it to me. I am very pleased to join this competition.
What do you enjoy most about science?: 
I like the fact that there are so many things left unsolved and that science has no limits. I love discovering new things.
What science accomplishment are you the most proud of?: 
My science experiment about sound barriers, that won first place in the school and in the PJAS.
