I actually found this contest being inspired by my older sister who just recently had won a few science competitions for high schoolers. She made me want to go to a great college and win a scholarship like her. So my parents and I started to look for different scholarships for middle school and I found the young scientist challenge. Hello! My name is Mythri Ambatipudi, and I am from San Jose, California. What an eventful summer I am having so far! I recently returned from India where I was visiting my grandparents. India is a whole different country, almost like another world. But in a way, it was not so different because 3M's influence could be felt even there, from my grandfather's scotch tape to my grandmother's post it notes. I have always been fascinated with technology, but I started to get really interested in science over the last two years. I actually entered the Young Scientist Challenge two years ago with an invention made to conserve water for public restrooms. Even though I didn't place, I told myself never to give up and entered again this year. I think perseverance is very important in science and technology research. What an awesome summer this is turning out to be!!! I’m trying out for the school basketball team, I just got back from a great week in Lake Tahoe and most of all, I was chosen as one of the 10 finalists in the Discovery 3M Young Scientist Challenge!!!
I already had a great call with my mentor, Dr. Moran. We discussed the status of the project I submitted and some of the work that I had done since then. She and the rest of the staff have been so friendly and supportive. Read more
