Deepika - YSC Week 10: Summer Mentorship
Hey Science Enthusiasts!
I think that one of my favorite parts of the Discovery Education 3M - Young Scientist Challenge is being able to discuss my ideas and findings with a real 3M scientist. I definitely could not have come this far if it wasn't for my amazing mentor Dr. Jonza, who is really enthusiastic about helping me with my project and is ready to give advice whenever needed. We have been speaking to each other almost every week for the past two months and his input has been extremely valuable. I have also been constantly updating Dr. Jonza by email about every new observation I come across during my scientific testing. Whenever I come across discouraging results, Dr. Jonza listens patiently and reminds me that as long as I keep thinking, I will find a solution. I had a lot of new ideas and Dr. Jonza encouraged me to explore them; which I did. I experimented with different 3M materials and my mentor always made sure that I received them on time. It is because of Dr. Jonza’s resourcefulness that I have been able to find the perfect 3M product to incorporate into my solution.
I cannot believe there is only a month left until the final event in October! Time really does fly by when you’re having fun! In these past few weeks, I have made a lot of progress and I am getting positive results. Very soon I will be collecting and analyzing the data from my prototype!
Thank you so much, Dr. Jonza, for your patience, encouragement, guidance, and support! I have been extremely fortunate to have you as my mentor, and I cannot wait to meet you in person.
