Aidan - The Beginning of My Journey
I'm Aidan from Northport, New York and I am one of ten national finalists in the 2012 Discovery Education 3M Young Scientist Challenge. The ten of us selected are middle school students from around the country with great ideas and I look forward to meeting everyone. Congratulations to all!
This is my first blog entry about my journey to the final rounds this October at 3M Labs in Minnesota.
The Young Scientist Challenge provides the fantastic opportunity to work with a scientist from 3M Labs to develop an innovation that helps people. I can't wait to get started on my project and to meet my 3M Scientist Mentor.
Some of my friends have asked HOW DID YOU BECOME A FINALIST? First off, I never thought I would come this far! But I think that my inspiration to try the Young Scientist Challenge came from my family and my interest in finding solutions to help people.
The Young Scientist Challenge asked middle school students like me to observe a problem in the world and to use the scientific method to solve it. I tackled the challenge of generating power in developing countries. The fun part was making a video that told the story behind my idea. The hard part was that it had to be only 2 minutes long!!
That's where the second half of my inspiration kicked in...my family! My family encouraged me never to give up. Once I submitted my video I was very eager to see the results but when I got the phone call telling me that I was a finalist, I was shocked!
Check out the videos from the finalists at www.youngscientistchallenge.com and stay tuned in to my blog to learn more as I work on my innovation!
