What is your favorite subject in school?:
My favorite school subject would have to be either science or social studies. I like science because it’s so fun! There’s just so much science all around you, you just have to realize it. Social studies are also fun because, if you think about it in a different way, it’s not just boring history and geography. It’s everyone’s story, and how they lived/live the past and present.
What career do you want to pursue and why?:
I want to become a middle school teacher because I think that’s when kids learn the most interesting things. We discover new math formulas, develop our writing skills, learn about intriguing cultures from centuries ago, and, of course, advance in science! I just love the look on the other students’ faces when I explain things to them. They have a face that says: “Oh, I get it. Wow, I know so much now!” I want to be able to leave an impression on kids’ lives, and help them move toward the future. Everyone had a teacher: Albert Einstein, Marie Curie, Benjamin Franklin, and so many others. Who knows, maybe I could teach the next genius!
Why did you enter in the Discovery Education 3M Young Scientist Challenge?:
My teacher nominated me to be in the 3M Young Scientist Challenge, and I thought it was a really cool idea! I could demonstrate how to fix a problem by using science, and show how it’s used every day. Science isn’t just a thing in textbooks and classrooms; it’s something that everything relates to.
What do you enjoy most about science?:
I like science because, just when you think you know everything about the world, you realize there’s more out there than you could possibly imagine. Every little crumb to every huge galaxy full of planets and stars has its own story to tell and its own mystery to figure out.
Anything else you'd like to tell us about yourself?:
I am an ambitious person. I like finishing things, like puzzles, as you can probably tell from the video. Science is kind of like a puzzle, I think, because the more little pieces you put together, the better you can see the entire picture. I like the feeling of accomplishment I get at the end.
