The best part of the entire innovation process, in my opinion, is the actual building of the prototype. I like to just sit down and get my hands dirty. Working with a 3M mentor is a lot of fun. It's really nice being able to bounce ideas off of someone. The most challenging part of the entire journey so far has been dealing with live insects, which behave in ways you don't expect.

As I participated in a 3M-wide poster session this week, I was reminded of the importance of being able to communicate what you’re researching to a variety of people who may come up and talk to you during a poster session. This type of interaction starts early in school for most of us, when we are encouraged to participate in science fairs or other competitions where we start communicating our work to others. If you don’t research the problem you are trying to solve, your solution may not be new or the best existing solution, and you won't know anything about what you're doing.
