What an awesome summer this is turning out to be!!!  I’m  trying out for the school basketball team, I just got back from a great week in Lake Tahoe and most of all, I was chosen as one of the 10 finalists in the Discovery 3M Young Scientist Challenge!!!
I already had a great call with my mentor, Dr. Moran.  We discussed the status of the project I submitted and some of the work that I had done since then. She and the rest of the staff have been so friendly and supportive.

I was inspired to join this competition in the sixth grade when Braden Benedict, an eighth grader who attended my school,  won the Young Scientist Challenge and really inspired our whole school. Making the two minute entry video was very exciting because I had a chance to present the project that I had worked so hard to create.

When I was waiting to hear back from Discovery Education 3M’s Young Scientists Challenge to see how I did, I was really hoping to be a finalist but I was also worried about getting my hopes too high and setting myself up for a great disappointment.

If I am fortunate enough to win, I plan on using the prize money to fund my future innovations that I hope will make the world a better place. My family is extremely excited and has been extremely supportive of me. They feel, like me, that this is an opportunity of a lifetime!
