Hello Fellow Scientists,
I've been spending a lot of my time in my room...doing nothing but RESEARCHING!
For the past week I've been trying to become an expert at my topic...which means researching, researching, and even more researching. I don't think I've ever done more researching in my life.
The hardest part about gathering information is probably the limitation of sources. When researching, I go from one website to the next and then 5 websites later, I come back to the beginning. A lot of my time researching goes in circles. I think I get a lead, but I come back to the same website...I guess all this is a part of research.
Solving a problem without research is like playing a soccer game with a soccer ball. Research is probably the most important part in the scientific method. How can you solve a problem without knowing the problem?
I don't think you ever know when you have enough information, but you have to trust yourself that you are ready for experimentation. After having a long talk with my mentor, I figured out what I needed to research in depth.
Another thing I've learned is the important skill of organization. Organization is the best thing that a researcher can do. Throughout this whole process, I've kept a notebook that has all my important research and information.
August is already here, and school is going to start in another week. I'm going in to high school, so balancing my schoolwork and my 3M project will be another challenge I'm ready to face.
Until then, I know I'm faced with the huge task of researching. Even though there is a lot of work, I'm thoroughly enjoying the process, and I can't wait for the final event in October.
