Hi everyone! I'm really excited to be in this challenge!
I was inspired to enter this contest because I've always loved science and considered it exciting and fun. When I read about computational biology and bioinformatics in my biology textbook, my interest was piqued and I decided to explore these new fields of science for my project. I also heard about the worldwide HIV epidemic and had a deep desire to help treat and cure this devastating disease.
Making the entry video was a fun and educational experience, and I particularly enjoyed being able to include Caysie, my dog—it was tough getting her to look at the camera, though!
I was thrilled to learn that I was a finalist in the Young Scientist Challenge, and my friends and family are extremely excited as well! I'm really looking forward to this summer's project and meeting everyone in October!
I had the opportunity to talk to my mentor, Dr. Raha Been, and we held a fascinating conversation about my project, her work in the development of advanced wound care technologies, and other topics.
