Hi! My name is Brooke Martin and I am one of the 2013 Finalists for the Discovery Education 3M Young Scientist Challenge!! I am 13 years old and live in Spokane, Washington.
I heard about the challenge through my school and was really excited about it! I had already been working on developing an idea I had, so I thought it would be really fun to enter it in the competition! My entry idea is a device that allows dog-owners to interact with their pets by video-chatting with them and feeding them a treat while away from home. Making the entry video was a really great challenge! I had made lots of videos before, but it was difficult to get my dog, Kayla, to cooperate in the filming! :)
After I had finished my entry video and submitted it, I felt like I had already won! I learned a lot by the experience of scripting, storyboarding, filming, and editing a video that I submitted for a contest! I was extremely anxious waiting to find out the results! I found myself daydreaming about what it would be like to get the opportunity to be a finalist or a state merit winner! I could hardly wait for the announcement, so when I got the phone call saying I was a finalist I could hardly contain my excitement! :)
I am super excited to get the opportunity to work with my 3M mentor, Dr. Langer Anderson, 0ver the next few months! Good luck to all the rest of the finalists as well! We’ll all be working really hard!
