Round 1 - The Communication Challenge

Finalists were randomly assigned one of five unusual phenomena: Elephant Toothpaste, Methane Mamba, Invisible Glass, Climbing Slime, and Vortices, Round and Square. They developed presentations that captivated their audiences while explaining the science behind their tricks. The finalists demonstrated how the decomposition of hydrogen peroxide spurred foam to shoot from a tall lab cylinder, how bubbles that rise and sway from a beaker of solution are able to ignite into flames, why liquid can defy Newton's Laws of Gravity by spinning and rising up a rod without spattering, and more.
